Slingin’ Junk

Way back before I was reselling, I did junk removal for a living. And, honestly, it was one of my favorite jobs. But it was too demanding in all ways to make it into a career.

The best part was that I kept in touch with the franchise owner, Drew. We’re friends. And now we’re returning to talks of trying to find a way to process, recycle, and resell some of the stuff the junk franchise collects. Fingers crossed I’ll have so much more to report on this next month.

Goodwill Bin Win

My girl and I went to the Goodwill Bins together for the first time this month. It was a trip. We tore through bins of goods. I went home with two bundles of Skylanders, a few Amiibos, a Vivitar lens backpack and a vintage Tyco Lamborghini Challenge RC slot race car track for $40. And I’ve already made my money back and then some selling off one bundle of Skylanders, all the Amiibos, and the Vivitar backpack. Gotta love the profit.

Poker face

I don’t auction too often, but when I do, it’s a win. This month’s auction was a big bundle of Paulson style poker chips. I had no idea where to start with this. They were a bit dusty and chipped. And weird dominations. But, hey, it sold for $134 and the buyer paid instantly.

Best part is I have another bundle!

Fails

Thrifting a bit less

It was abrupt. The Unique thrift store in Watchung, NJ closed their doors. They said it was a lease lapse. I have my doubts. Everything went 50% off over the President’s Day weekend and now it’s gone. My #ThriftingThursdays are not the same.

Mo’ money, mo’ problems

Ebay increased their final value fees this month. The percentage points grew and they chalked it up to inflation. But, as the One Foot Flipper pointed out, that makes no sense - you don’t need to raise a percentage if the prices go up. C'est la vie.

Going forward

Things feel like they are meant to be recently. The Watchung thrift store closing cut my sourcing opportunities by a third. But I might be working with the junk removal company real soon. They essentially said I could dive through their trucks after hours and sell whatever I take. Is this not a dream come true?

Stay tuned…
