Llama Party

Boy, that monthly profit would be far less if I didn’t find and finally sell the Jem and the Holograms Rama Llama figure. She went for a whooping $300! My best sale yet!

Making space

We started the month strong with a pretty successful garage sale at my parent’s house. I think I made about $150. But, as I often say, it was just great to make some space. The storage unit is light and the toy box is lighter. Also, as soon as everything was out on the lawn, I was less eager to pack it up and try to sell it again, so plenty got donated or chucked altogether.

Some of my favorite surprises:

  • Someone bought the cowboy hats!

  • Someone bought all the Knex so I could remove them from my eBay store.

  • A guy bought a bundle of stuff and haggled over a few bucks only to end up forgetting to take home a suitcase he bought.

Quick moves

There is one thing I like better than making space, and that’s making space fast. That happened for me with the Callaway golf clubs. Listed and sold in less than a day.

Plus, I took a nice little gamble and it paid off. I bought three tubs of LEGO (weighing 50+ pounds) at a church sale for $60, went home to sort it all, and then sold the bulk of it the next day for $75. I’m still sorting through and identifying minifigures, but I already sold 4 pounds of Bionicle pieces for $80 at auction and a few minifigure bundles for $15-20.

Nearing the warehouse

But the best news of all is that the junk company is nearly settled with the lease for a new warehouse! I met with my old boss to discuss the operation and I was elated to hear that he wanted me to run it. I have no experience facilitating a warehouse or even massive reselling operation, but boy is my mind spinning! We have yet to work out the details but I’m sure I’ll have much more to report next month.

Going forward

Gosh, now what do I do?

It’s funny to think I used to be so focused on going to the thrift store every week and flipping the stuff. Now that this warehouse opportunity has appeared, the priorities have changed. I need to flip everything and start fresh. I need to write down some ideas of how to run it all. But do I keep up the Instagram and email growth?

I suppose it’s about keeping as many plates spinning as you reliably can. Right now, managing my weekly email has been simple enough, but week after week I don’t find the time to do much more. It could be that the warehouse would knock this out of rotation.

Time will tell. But I’m excited to figure it all out. With that being said, I don’t have exact plans going forward yet. They’ve reveal themselves as we go along.
